This is the place

As usual, we drove out to see the house this afternoon. This is something that we do at least twice a week, especially on Sunday afternoons.

While we were about to leave, one of our future neighbors came to say hi. His name is Brent Robison. He and his wife Julie, will be moving in three weeks after us. They are an 'older' couple, probably recent empty-nesters. It sounds like our neighborhood will have a good mix of young and 'old'.

Brent mentioned that our ward (Daybreak 8th Ward) was recently split, with another split likely around the first of the year and then again in the summer. Most likely in the summer, we will be split from the current stake and be organized into a new stake. Needless to say, there will be a lot of change. That is ok, we are used to that.

He did mention, as did our Bishop on the phone, that we will fit well into the ward, as it includes a lot of young families. We are thinking that we will visit there at least once before we make the move. That way, Kylie has a bit of a transition to what is already confusing to her.

As Brent walked away, we looked at each other and said, this is where we are supposed to be. It sounds like it will be home.

Snowing in September?

We never would have guessed that we would see snow before we moved into our home in South Jordan. If it can come as late as June, it can also come as early as September.

As you can see below, we received 4-5 inches of snow yesterday in the season's first snowfall to the area. Wow, this is crazy!

Cabinets are in!

The exterior paint is almost complete. Well, besides the acsent color that was overlooked. Yes, the board and batten portion of the home should be a Jackson Antique color (creme/tan). They will be applying the new color this next week.



The cabinets were installed this week. They really turned out well. Granite counter tops will be installed later this week, as well as the rock on the fireplace, followed by carpet.

It's a date!

Our builder called today, indicating that our close date has been set - Wednesday, October 24th. Yeah! The cabinets were installed yesterday in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room. They really look good! Oh, and the mantle was hung. The house is starting to look like a home.

At the present, this is our moving plan.

< 24th - pack Draper house items
24th - close, move Draper house items to Daybreak
25th - cleaning, move items from storage unit to Daybreak, setup beds and large furniture.
26th and beyond - unpack boxes

A fall family tradition

This afternoon we continued our family tradition of driving the Alpine Loop from the American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon to see the fall colors. As always, we took along apple slices and a yummy dip.






Our trip not only included views of the foliage and mountains, but also two visitors - a couple of deer that were grazing near Sundance.




We thought we would share a taste of fall in Utah!

Couldn't sleep

Yes, this entry was posted at 3:30 in the morning! Ryan couldn't sleep. Too much on his mind, I guess.

Our builder is making good progress on our home. This last week the interior painting was completed, bathtub and shower tile surround was finished and garage doors installed.

Cabinets will begin to be installed on Monday, with the remainder of the week devoted to the exterior painting and other finish work.

We exercised our rate float-down feature on our loan this week, so the only steps left to complete are pack and watch the construction progress. Packing shouldn't be very difficult as most of our goods are currently packed in a local storage unit.

Growing Like Weeds

Early Christmas

Can Christmas come in September? No, we are not referring to the weather, although this weekend may bring the first snow on the mountain tops. Yikes!

Today Ryan got a new computer at work. He ordered a new MacBookPro. Needless to say, he is like a kid at Christmas. :)

If today is any indication, the Hobbs family may completely convert to Mac products.

A little more like 'home'

Our new home is progressing quickly. These photos (sorry for the quality, they were taken from my phone) were taken several days ago. Since then, the finish work and exterior has been completed and they are preping to paint inside and out. In addition, the stair rails were installed and stained and the tile is now complete.



We have been given a tentative close date of Oct 24th ... although, it could go a week either way (early or later). Now that Ryan works just 1.5 miles from our new home, he frequently drops by to check on the progress. It won't be too long before we are moving in! Yeah!

Abbey Road

As you can see, Abbey is growing up quickly. She loves to stand up. She may be just like her mother and walk at 9 months, skipping the crawling stage.

She watches every move of her older sister Kylie. It is as if she is saying "hey, I want to play too." It will be fun to see the two girls interact with each other when Abbey gets bigger. They already make each other laugh!

Quarterback Princess

We have learned that Kylie likes two things: dresses and football. You may say that she is a "quarterback princess." This is her watching a college football game on tv with Dad, while sporting her Cinderella dress.
